The Australian TGA regulates IVDs as a subset of medical devices, using a risk-based approach. Their regulatory framework aligns with the recommendations of the Global Harmonisation Task Force (GHTF). This means that if you successfully register an IVD with the TGA then you are likely to achieve registration in other countries that align their regulations with the GHTF.
IVDs are classified by the TGA as follows:
